Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

+20% - Direct mail is far more persuasive than digital media; it has a 20% higher motivation response.1

77% - More people open print magazines (77%) – and view ads that are in them – than digital publications (49%).2

78% - Print gets read: 78% of households either read or scan the advertising mail that they receive.3

50% - Over 50% of shoppers use print at least once a week to get product information; that’s nearly 20% higher than email, which is the closest digital touchpoint.4

For the past five years you have heard us talk about the Choose Print campaign. The goal of the campaign is to promote the effectiveness of print and to reinforce the fact that print on paper is a recyclable, renewable, and, thus, sustainable environmental choice. And the effort is working as we continue to reach out to designers, print buyers, and purchasing agents.

Now we are happy to announce the newest addition to this multi-faceted program: The six-part “Be Prepared” poster series aimed at you, the printer. It will give you strong, fact-based responses to address common objections you hear about print.

By now, you should have received a letter introducing this campaign as well as the first self mailer, which is also available at 17” x 22" for download and printing here, as the first in a series of 6 posters that we will be making available every two weeks.

Print has a very exciting story to tell. The chooseprint.org campaign is here to help members tell it so that, in the end, they can do what they’re in business to do – produce and sell more print.

As part of the PIASC/RAISE Foundation’s Literacy Campaign initiated in 2004, PIASC prints bookmarks designed to encourage children to read and offers them to Southern California public libraries during the summer months to be distributed to their young patrons. This year, however, during the last three weeks, staff received requests for bookmarks on a daily basis. Apparently, teachers received information from a Google group of school librarians alerting them to the fact that PIASC gave free bookmarks!

The design for most of the bookmarks comes from a student college competition conducted by PIASC each year. Our annual mailing list consists of 296 public libraries and now adding 69 schools that want to receive these colorful and magical bookmarks. A total of 135,000 bookmarks were mailed to libraries and schools this year and all bookmarks carry the following message: READ, READ, READ, the more you read, the more you know; and the more you know, the smarter you grow!

If you want to increase your sales, you need to motivate your prospects to take the next step now, when they are most interested. After all, if they decide to wait until “later,” later may never come. Here are some ways to create a real sense of urgency in your marketing materials:

  • Make them really want it
  • State a specific deadline
  • Imply time sensitivity in the offer name
  • Give an incentive
  • Make it a limited offer
  • Use “urgent” wording

Here are some simple tips for building your overall influence with your employees.

You influence your team in many ways, not just by telling them what to do. Here are some simple tips for building your overall influence with your employees:

  • Communicate face to face. Talk to each employee individually as much as you can instead of relying on emails and team meetings.
  • Understand individual motivations. Money isn’t everything. Find out what drives each worker to achieve excellence.
  • Set objectives. Be clear about what you want to achieve. Goals should be concrete and easily measurable.
  • Give feedback. Provide updates on an individual and team level so employees know what they’re doing well and where they can improve.
