Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

WE EXPERIENCED PRINT POWER ALL RIGHT!

Print Power is what was felt and seen at the annual Graphics Night, featuring the Print Excellence Awards last Friday. Over 300 industry members enjoyed an evening of fun, comradeship, and celebration at Pacific Palms Resort in Industry Hills. Guests started arriving at 5:30 p.m. to enjoy a cocktail reception and the exhibit of outstanding pieces produced by members of PIASC. During the exhibit, guests were encouraged to vote for the "People's Choice Award," which would be presented later that evening.

Guests were invited to enter the electrifying Majestic Ballroom for dinner and the presentation of awards. The stage was illuminated with a sign that read PRINT POWER. After dinner, the presentation of awards started: Mrs. Candy Waldron was present to receive her late husband’s posthumous Executive of the Year Award, which was presented by Larry Lester, former Executive of the Year. Many commendations from government officials were also received. Jim Joyce, PIASC Chairman of the Board assisted Janet Green, Public Relations Chair and Presenter, with the presentation of awards to winning companies.

After the awards presentation guests were invited to dance to the tunes of Beverly Hills DJ until midnight.

It was indeed a magnificent event that could not have been made possible without our sponsors, the invaluable contribution of Janet Green and the PR Committee; all PIASC members that supported this event, and the PIASC Team and their passion put into organizing an event worthy of our printing industry.

CALIFORNIA'S MINIMUM WAGE HIKE

Employers will need to prepare for the new minimum wage hike in California. The current minimum wage is $10; however, thanks to SB3, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50 on January 1, 2017, $11.00 on January 1, 2018, and then an additional $1 each year until $15.00 per hour is reached.

TAKE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE

Steve Hardison, who went on to become a successful executive coach, began his career in sales at Xerox. Procut returns were against company policy at the time, but according to a story in the Chicago Tribune, one day Hardison decided to let one of his customers return a copier regardless of the rule. When his boss demanded an explanation, Hardison said, “If I lose a job because I took care of a customer, then I never had a job.”

The next day his boss’s boss called him into his office. Hardison fully expected to get fired. Instead the executive said, “I wish I had more people like you.” His reputation for honesty and integrity was made.

BE PREPARED WHEN CLIENTS SAY

Nobody reads direct mail. Digital media is much more effective. Tell them: Actually, many consumers love receiving mail so much that they ritualize it and imbue it with emotionally-charged meaning…

Check out these facts:

92% - Consumers are more likely to notice and read direct mail (53%) than email (26%), and 92% say they get ideas for shopping trips from printed material.

3x – Direct mail appeals garner 3 times more charitable donations than emailed appeals.

6x – Direct mail outperforms all digital channels combined by nearly 600%.

82% - Consumers on average ignore 82% of online ads, studies show.

By now, you received the third and fourth of six self-mailers. The others you'll receive this month. Each self-mailer addresses negative comments that potential clients may make about the environmental credentials and marketing effectiveness of ink on paper. The self-mailer, which is also available at 17x22” for download and printing here, provides you with factual responses to such comments.

This is just the beginning. There are many resources available on ChoosePrint.org. Check it out!
