Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

IT’S TIME FOR COCKTAILS AND CONVERSATIONS!

We look forward to seeing you at one, or both, of PIASC’s Cocktails & Conversations scheduled during the month of August. It's time to get together and enjoy an evening of refreshing drinks, great hors d’oeuvres, and enlightening networking!

We all know that business networking is a valuable way to expand our knowledge, learn from the success of others, attain new contacts, and tell others about our business. Therefore, let’s use networking as a way of acquiring knowledge, growing our business, and making new friends!

Here are a few benefits of networking:

  1. Generation of referrals/Increased business – This is probably the most obvious benefit and the reason most business people decide to participate in networking activities.

  2. Opportunities – You can find opportunities like joint ventures, client leads, partnerships… the list goes on, and the opportunities within networking are endless.

  3. Connections – “It’s not WHAT you know but WHO you know.” This is true in business. If you want a successful business, then you need to have a great source of relevant connections in your network that you can call on when you need them.

  4. Raising your profile – Being visible and getting noticed is a big benefit of networking. Attending business and social events regularly and offering useful information or tips to people who need it, can help you build your reputation as a knowledgeable and supportive person. This can result in getting more referrals or leads for your business.

Make your reservations now and plan to attend an enjoyable and relaxing event with industry peers. Contact Emily Holguin at 323.728.9500, ext. 262 or click here to register online.

PAPER AND PAPERBOARD RECYCLING HITS RECORD HIGH

Do the majority of printed products end up in landfills? No – and the numbers just keep improving. Here’s the updated answer from the FAQs page at www.ChoosePrint.org.

Over the past 33 years, the amount of paper and paperboard that is recycled has increased from 38.7% in 1993 to 44.5% in 1999, and a record-high 66.8% in 2015. In addition 72.8% of newspaper/mechanical papers was recovered in 2015. Overall, the amount of paper going to landfills has declined by more than half since 2003, falling from an estimated 46.4 million tons to about 21.7 million tons in 2015.

Share this information with your peers and family and invite them to visit www.ChoosePrint.org to learn more about the environmental-friendly credentials of print.

FIND THE EXTRA MILERS' ON YOUR TEAM

Employees are more likely to go the extra mile when they come into contact with as many teammates and co-workers as possible, according to a study by the University of Iowa. Researchers observed that “extra milers” express two specific behaviors:

  • Assistance. They go out of their way to physically assist co-workers who are overwhelmed or need help.

  • Voice. They support leadership by speaking up to point out problems or make suggestions to improve workflow. Look for these two traits to identify workers who are willing to go the extra mile for your organization.

PUT ONE ELEMENT INTO EVERY PLAN

Don’t set goals for your department and then let them fade away. When you and your team draw up a plan—to revise procedures or simply to clean out the storage room—be sure to assign completion dates for every step of the plan. Check them often to keep track of where you are. Change them if necessary, but don’t forget them, or you’ll find yourself at the end of the quarter (or whatever period you’re working through) without the results you need.
