Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

ESSENTIALS TO SUCCESS: GAINING MORE BUSINESS FROM YOUR CURRENT PRINT CUSTOMERS

Did you know that existing customers are 50% more likely to buy from you and spend 31% more, when compared to new customers?*

Plan to attend this one-day conference that will be charged with information about your industry; nurturing, retaining, and selling more to your current customers; your company’s visibility; and how to manage each and every customer efficiently.

  • Dr. Bonetto, VP Government Affairs for Printing Industries of California, will discuss the status of the printing industry in California and its direction.

  • Lorin Young of Design Dynamics will share the steps to take to own a great business—not only by knowing your customers’ needs but also knowing the challenges they face and helping find solutions.

  • Jen Strang, PIA National, will conduct a hands-on workshop to show you the benefits of becoming visible online; retaining and gaining new customers by using social media outlets.

  • Christoph Riechert, CBR Technology, will demonstrate the amazing things that happen when you track all your conversations and interactions in one place. By the click of a button, you will be able to know each customer’s history, including what their needs are so that no opportunities are missed.

We hope to see you at this year’s conference at Fullerton College. The conference starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Then at 8:30 a.m. the program begins. Your investment is only $90 for first registrant and $40 for additional registrants from the same company; non-members $140.00. Register today by clicking here or contacting Emily Holguin at 323.728.9500, ext. 262.

TEAM SUCCESS DEPENDS ON THE RIGHT MIX OF MEMBERS

For a team to succeed, it should have the right combination of people. Fill these nine roles to ensure your team is effective.

  • The Solver. This person is the creative spirit of the team—the one who comes up with solutions to the team’s problems.
  • The Coordinator. This employee takes care of traditional leadership functions, such as interpreting objectives, pushing for decisions, and allocating resources.
  • The Investigator. This team member scouts out useful external resources and contacts for the team.
  • The Evaluator. This person points out alternative courses of action and shares observations and opinions.
  • The Implementer. This one takes ideas and runs them into action.
  • The Team Worker. This person puts out fires between team members and makes sure that disagreements don’t affect the team’s overall progress.
  • The Finisher. This team member makes sure all tasks are completed correctly, fixes mistakes, and keeps the team on schedule to make deadlines.
  • The Specialist. This person brings specific knowledge to the team that nobody else has—but that is essential if the team is to succeed.
  • The Shaper. This member makes sure the team is properly challenged, and helps the team get through setbacks.

Editor’s Note: Not many companies have the privilege of having a team of nine; however, many of us wear many hats; therefore, you can have a team of 3 or 4 with a variety of qualities, which is OK too.

PIA'S DYNAMIC RATIOS SURVEY DEADLINE IS EXTENDED TO JULY 31ST

The Printing Industries of America’s Dynamic Ratios has been the industry’s standard helping printers to improve their profitability by benchmarking their operations against industry profit leaders. But we need members to participate and in return, you will receive a free copy of the study.

The central features of the new and improved Dynamic Ratios include a secure interactive dashboard that will enable you to compare your company with others throughout the region and country. It doesn’t matter what type of printer you are—commercial, packaging manufacturer, tag and label, converter—you’ll be able to compare your company vs. others just like yours.

There are four different ways you can participate: online survey, survey pdf, survey spreadsheet, or by having Margolis Partners complete it for you. Members that participate in this important study will receive a free copy of the Dynamic Ratios report.

  • Click here for more information about the Ratios.

  • Click here to participate - access to the online survey form and pdf downloads.

DEADLINE IS JULY 31, 2016! If you have questions, please contact PIA’s Center for Print Economics and Management at economics@printing.org.

DID YOU SEE THE LATEST PRINT CASE STUDIES?

A nonprofit’s personalized direct mail increased donations 30% over their prior year! Postcards for a chain of athletic apparel stores generated a 10% response and over $277K in sales! These two case studies are just more “ammunition” from the Choose Print campaign, which is dedicated to helping your clients and prospects see why choosing print is such a good idea.

LABOR COSTS ARE CHANGING

With the recent DOL re-definition of exempt vs. non-exempt parameters, employers are analyzing their current employee compensation structure to ensure compliance. A crucial part of this analysis is compensating employees fairly, within the company and marketplace. The Association’s Wage & Benefit Survey is THE tool that can be used to help managers make these types of decisions. It’s the most comprehensive survey available within the print industry and provides salary/wage information on over 100 positions as well as current benefit practices.

The cost for the survey is only $250, but member companies who participate will receive a free copy and the most current data. Members can download a copy of the survey questionnaire here. Job descriptions can be viewed here.

Survey deadline is August 5, 2016 and the report will become available in October.

For additional information, contact Cheryl Chong at 323.728.9500, ext. 218.

THE CALIFORNIA MINIMUM WAGE AND PAID SICK LEAVE BY JURISDICTION MADE EASY WITH A CHART PREPARED FOR MEMBERS

The federal minimum wage has not been raised since 2009. Consequently, many states have taken action and raised the minimum wage above the federal level.

Currently 29 states, including California ($10 per hour) have minimum wages above the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. Moreover, before 2012 only five localities had minimum wage laws. Today 34 counties and cities do, half of which are in California.

To help members, Printing Industries of California (PIC) created an easy-to-read chart and is maintaining an up-to-date inventory of these laws, with scheduled increases—as well as local paid sick leave ordinances which are more liberal than the state policy—with links to notices and postings. Click here for a copy of the California Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Leave by Jurisdiction.

If you have any questions, contact Gerry Bonetto at 323.728.9500, ext. 248.
