Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

WE WANT TO MAKE YOUR SPIRITS BRIGHT! FREE MEMBER NETWORKING EVENT

For the holidays, our networking event, Cocktails & Conversations, will be free for members on November 30th at JT Schmid’s Restaurant & Brewery from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Enjoy a glass of your favorite “spirit”, have some tasty small bites and best of all, connect with new contacts. Let’s not forget that face-to-face networking is way more effective than an easy LinkedIn connection. 40% of prospects converted to customers through face-to-face meetings.*

We are making your spirits bright by offering this event at no cost, so in return, make a graphic communications student’s spirit bright with a monetary contribution of your choice to our educational foundation, the R.A.I.S.E. Foundation. Simply bring your checkbook or cash to the event and presto, good deed done! Non-members are welcome to join us for $40 per person, but have no fear for that will also be donated to the foundation.

Your donation will help support the goal of the R.A.I.S.E. Foundation, which is to foster graphic communications careers in primary, secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. The foundation has been sustained for years by individual companies, industry employees, and other foundations.

How thankful are the students who receive grants?

“Thank you for making my dream possible. For the last two years my number one goal has been to obtain every certification in the field of graphic design offered by East LA Occupation Center. After winning 1st place in the State wide [competition] with my pin design, I went on to compete in Nationals [in] Louisville, KY, with my pin design and brought home Gold, all of which was made possible by PIASC R.A.I.S.E. Foundation’s grant after winning 1st Place in the bookmark competition. Words are not enough to express my gratitude for all your support and generosity. Thank you, Fondly, José Saavedra”

Registration is required as space is limited.

3 MARKETING IDEAS FOR THE FALL SEASON

  1. Sell your customers on the role print plays in an effective marketing strategy. This article in Forbes will help: “The Art Of The Leave-Behind.”

  2. Print companies that had double-digit growth last year supported their sales efforts with marketing collateral (Infotrends). Content is king. Educational, engaging, thought leadership promotes credibility and sticks around. Sales literature does neither.

  3. Sell client retention programs. Why?
    - They offer a truly unique selling proposition.
    - Program selling rather than job selling
    - A wealth of content to support retention over acquisition spend.
    - Scalable program regarding frequency, channels, and media.
    - No learning curve for sales staff.

It’s easier to sell a retention program than other traditional marketing programs. More details in this September Printing News article.

FREE WEBINAR FOR MEMBERS: WHY WE SHOULD DITCH THE ON-PREMISES SERVERS FOR FASTER, LESS EXPENSIVE TECHNOLOGY

Why attend this webinar?
Have you felt like you're spending too much money on the technology in your office? Have you heard team members complain about system downtime and slow response times? Have you seen money go out the door to replace aging computer equipment?

What you will learn
Cloud computing entails utilizing a network of remote servers, which is hosted at a service provider's facility and accessed via the Internet. These services are designed to store, manage, and process data remotely rather than on a local server or a personal computer.

How to apply this technology in your business
You can learn how cloud computing is revolutionizing how we work with computer systems and software. This webinar will review the underlying concepts of virtual servers and ways to access them via the Internet. It will also cover how software is typically installed on these systems and how it can be used to support a mobile workforce. Finally, you will learn the financial aspects of cloud computing including a case study comparing a cloud and an on-premises deployment.

Who should attend?
Business owners and team members who are responsible for information technology

FINISHERS, WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!

Printing Industries of America (PIA) is putting together a brand new peer group for finishing companies. So if you are a finisher and interested, please contact June Crespo to obtain a peer group application.

You may ask, why should I join a peer group? For more than 30 years, PIA Peer Groups have helped printers improve their profitability by sharing resources and ideas. These networks unite printing executives from companies of similar sizes and issues, but do not directly compete geographically.

Peer groups are all about knowledge sharing, with most:

  • Sharing sales strategies and compensation plans
  • Discussing technical considerations like equipment purchases
  • Evaluating management information systems
  • Addressing succession plans
  • and much more

Don’t be left behind while your competitor gains advantage from this opportunity!

CRITICAL 10-MINUTE DRILL BEFORE LETTING CAL/OSHA IN YOUR PLANT

Your first 10 minutes, before you allow a CAL/OSHA enforcement officer to inspect your facility, are critical! You should be friendly and cooperative with CAL/OSHA, and rarely should you ever deny them access.

Once you have determined why CAL/OSHA enforcement is visiting your facility, if you are working with a Safety Rep, you can tell CAL/OSHA a variation of the following to the enforcement officer...“We are proud of our safety program that an outside consulting firm has helped us develop and since our consultant is heavily involved in our compliance, he wants to talk to you before you inspect our facility. If he does not respond within 10-15 minutes, we’ll go ahead today and fully cooperate.” READ MORE >>

Wait...Safety Rep? Yes! And we can direct you, to Assured Compliance Solutions to get one of your own.

YOU CAN CALL ON US TOO!

Recently, Joanne Cadenas, PIBT Operations Manager, and Cheryl Chong, HR Director, attended the PIA OSHA Compliance for Printing Workshop, in Pittsburgh, PA in October. This was a hands-on, comprehensive program that gave insight into critical aspects of OSHA compliance. PIA’s team of Environmental, Health, and Safety professionals provided understanding of:

  • Common OSHA violations and how to avoid them
  • Injury reporting
  • Hazard communication
  • Machine guarding
  • Lockout/tagout
  • Electrical safety

So if you have any general questions on safety, please feel free to contact Cheryl at 323.728.9500 x218. Questions on worker’s compensation contact Joanne at 323.728.9500 x256.

ASAHI AWP AND LABEL IMPRESSIONS WINNERS AT 2017 TLMI ANNUAL AWARDS

The wins keeps coming in 2017 for  Asahi's AWP Flexo Plate Material and  Label Impressions, Inc. as multiple awards were won at the  2017 TLMI Annual Awards. Label Impressions, of Orange, CA used Asahi AWP plates to print their winning submissions of the Deva Curl and Exotikly labels. The end result was beautiful high quality, unique and rich color prints that caught the judges' attention immediately.

Jeff Salisbury of Label Impressions commented on the winning pieces, "Translating the unique customer design concepts was a challenge that any other plate besides Asahi's AWP might not have been up to the task. The extremely tight registration on both labels, and translucent and 3D effects came out beautiful working with the AWP plate material and our expert in-house production staff. What's more, we did this utilizing a water-washout plate that reduces VOCs to almost zero, causes less buildup, and reduces cleanup and press downtime greatly. We couldn't be more happy with the results from using Asahi flexo plate material."
