Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

WHY IS CYBER SECURITY VITAL TO YOU?

Today the necessity of strong cybersecurity measures is self-evident. A proliferation of cyber-attacks is causing increasing damage to companies, governments and individuals. They are often the victims of ransomware, malware that typically enables cyber extortion for financial gain. To prevent such attacks, you need to respond to this increased threat by adopting strict cybersecurity measures.

Take a look at the following Cyber Attack Facts:

  • 60% of all businesses close after a cybercrime
  • The average time that a Small Manufacturing Business is under attack is 18 months before detection.
  • The average ransom cost is $32,000 to release your computers system.

PIASC members are urged to participate in this FREE informative webinar on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. PST.

Topics include the following:

  • What a cybercrime is and who is at risk
  • What a data security plan is and why it’s important
  • The steps that must be taken to secure systems and data
  • What to do in the event of a data breach

KNOW WHEN TO CLOSE YOUR MOUTH AND LET OTHERS SPEAK

Knowing when to speak up is important, but knowing when to shut up is just as useful. But some people don’t grasp that. Here are a few questions to determine whether you know when to pipe down:

  • After you make your point, do you just have to add a few other comments?
  • Do you say “in closing” or similar phrases several times before you really stop?
  • Do you always have to have the last word in an argument or disagreement?

Here are some communication tips:

  • Be clear about what you are attempting to communicate.
  • Avoid getting distracted by other issues, ideas, points, stories, etc.
  • Learn to tolerate silence. It’s an effective tool for helping other people open up.

ASK THE TECHNICAL EXPERTS!

One of the benefits of membership is the technical expertise provided by Printing Industries of America. Our technical experts from the Center for Technology and Research discuss common production problems and issues. The PIA’s Center for Technology and Research, also helps members with environmental, health, and safety concerns: consulting, and on-site technical assistance. Here’s the type of questions for which you can get answers:

Q. We are printing on a heavy plastic sheet. When the sheets are removed from the delivery, we find rings and patterns that are rough to the touch. Is there a problem with the substrate or is it a process problem?

A. The roughness to the touch is most likely spray powder. The static electricity in the sheet can cause a magnetic field that creates rings of static electricity that attract spray powder. The spray powder concentrates and adheres to the wet ink or aqueous coating creating the feel of uneven roughness. The larger the grain size of the spray powder and the greater the amount of spray powder used, the more noticeable the difference in the texture will be to the touch. Printing this UV would eliminate the spray powder.

For this and many other questions and answers, stay tuned and read e-Flash regularly.
