RAISE FOUNDATION CELEBRATES THE VICTORIES OF GRAPHIC ARTS STUDENTS

The RAISE Foundation celebrated its Educational Program’s 30th Year Anniversary at the Students’ Awards Banquet at Tamayo Restaurant and Art Gallery on May 18th. Graphic arts leaders, teachers, parents, and students enjoyed an evening of celebration and cheer in a festive, art-filled environment that could not be more perfect for such an occasion. The event was organized by PIASC and sponsored by The Katie Denne Memorial Fund, CACT, Superior Lithographics, Inc., Adams Press, Bickley Printing Co., Ink on Paper Solutions, The Label Shoppe, and the RAISE Foundation.

After a delicious dinner, students, and parents were anxious to find out who the winners were so they paid close attention as Susan Kinney, PIASC Education Chair and MC for the event, announced cheerfully the winners of this year’s competitions.

FIRE BACK WHEN 'CONTROLLERS' GO ON OFFENSE

Some people try to establish power or dominate discussions by asking questions that put others on the defensive—“Why did you do that?” or “What were you thinking?” Break their momentum by simply asking them, “what do you mean?” You avoid answering them or explaining yourself—you’re simply asking for clarification in an assertive manner. Now the controlling person has to do the explaining and will perhaps think twice before attacking a person who resists being bullied.

TWO SIDES CITES ADP AS A GREENWASHER

A few months ago, Two Sides started highlighting the "Top Five Greenwashers" in North America—corporations that are misleading their customers on the environmental profile of paper and print, while failing to consider the impacts of their own electronic infrastructure, and ignoring the sustainability of paper products from well-managed North American forests. Their second in the series is ADP, a well-established global provider of payroll and other human resource services with operations in over 10 countries. Many companies in the paper, print and packaging sectors, including Two Sides member companies, use ADP's services. >>MORE

WRITE MEANINGFUL EMAIL SUBJECT LINES

When sending correspondence to clients and prospects via email, pay attention to the subject line. A subject line that clearly announces what the e-mail is about makes it easy for the recipient to distinguish important messages from spam, and also makes it simple for them (and you!) to find the message in their history file if they need to refer to it at a later date.

WAGE & BENEFIT SURVEY BEGINS THIS SUMMER

Each year, PIASC conducts one of the most powerful surveys in the industry. It’s our annual Wage & Benefit survey. Since this is a joint effort of all the Printing Industries of America’s Affiliated organizations, local, regional and national information is gathered and published. Over the past three years, we’ve averaged over 600 firms and 18,000 employees a year. That’s one valuable survey! What’s the cost? Nonmember companies will spend $1,000 - $1,500 for this survey. Participating Member companies receive this survey at no charge!

The survey begins June 19th and you can complete the survey and e-mail us a hard copy. The choice is yours, but participate! There is no other industry survey like this! Contact Cheryl at 323,728.9500, ext. 218 for more information.
