SUPPORT OUR GRAPHIC ARTS YOUTH BY SPONSORING A STUDENT TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL RAISE FOUNDATION’S AWARDS BANQUET

Every year—for the last 29 years—the RAISE Foundation has worked with graphic arts programs and helped teachers in a variety of ways, including holding competitions to engage the students in the diverse world of graphic communication.

The winners of the high school, college and Skills USA, State and National competitions have an opportunity to celebrate with their teachers and parents at this Annual Awards Banquet—where RAISE Foundation presents winning students with their trophies and cash scholarships. This year we received 118 entries from high school and college students for the following competitions: Bookmark, Coloring Book, Packaging, and T-shirt competition.

We need approximately 141 members to sponsor only one graphic arts student to be able to attend this celebration. The awards banquet is scheduled on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Tamayo Restaurant.

With your sponsorship of $35.00, you will allow a student to experience an unforgetable graphic arts event—just like those students that participated many years ago and who now work for our industry or teach graphic arts.

Your contribution is tax deductible and with your participation the awards banquet will be a great success! To sponsor one or more students, please click here. To learn more about RAISE click here.

40 MINUTES VS. 30 SECONDS

According to a recent study on Newspaper Consumption in the Mobile Age, while print newspapers are read for an average of 40 minutes per day, online visitors to the websites and apps of those same newspapers spend an average of just 30 seconds per day. It’s no wonder print sells! Learn more at ChoosePrint.org and share it with your employees and friends.

EEOC ALERTS EMPLOYERS TO NATIONAL-ORIGIN BIAS

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has issued updated enforcement guidance on national-origin discrimination, focusing on bias based on employees; ethnic and cultural heritage. The guidance provided best practices employers can use to prevent discrimination in hiring, discipline, termination and more. The new guidance replaces a 2002 version.

PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS WITH POSTCARDS

In the realm of direct mail, post cards offer some distinct advantages. Postcards are less expensive to print and mail than many other direct mail options. With no envelope to open, postcards have a higher “read rate.” And postcards force you to whittle your message down to only the most important points, since overly lengthy messages just won’t fit.

ADD YOUR SOCIAL LINKS TO YOUR PRINTACCESS PROFILES

Members can now add links to their company pages on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Google+ to their profile on printaccess.

Each member has a free profile on PrintAccess—a national website anyone can use to find vendors. It’s free marketing for PIASC members but it’s only successful if you make the most of what the site can offer.

Visit PrintAccess and see how your company looks. Check out what your competitors are doing. If you need your login to make changes, contact Jairo Cuellar.

MILLENNIALS DIFFER FROM OTHER GENERATIONS IN ALMOST EVERY REGARD

There is nothing new about comments on how "kids these days" are different from the generations that came before them. In the case of Millennials, the U.S. Census Bureau has some data to back those observations up.

"Today’s young adults look different from prior generations in almost every regard: how much education they have, their work experiences, when they start a family, and even who they live with while growing up," says a report from the Census Bureau released Wednesday. Take a look at the report.
