Dear Member, here is your weekly e-flash!

PIASC’s focus is on our members—and helping them in any way we can has been the cornerstone of our existence. It goes without saying that at this time we are experiencing a skilled labor shortage. Fewer people coming into the industry and an increasing number retiring or leaving for adjacent industries.

PIASC is addressing this concern with a multi-stepped approach. The first step is a complete redesign of the member job bank. In fact, we have gone a bit further and added additional services into it. It is now called the PIASC Recruitment Platform. And as such, we are able to build a one stop location to streamline the hiring process. From recruiting people to screening them to hiring them.

Some of the features in this first phase include the following:

  • The Free job posting and resume searching of our job seeker database
  • Access to the PIA Job Bank with your member discounted pricing built in
  • Enhanced Graphic User Interface to make a more user friendly navigation
  • Ability to interact with applicants through our site
  • Information and links to our Temporary Staffing Discount Program with Semper International.
  • Background check services at member discounts

One of our most exciting new features is a lightweight Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which we are able to offer at no cost. With our sites’ technology you are able to use your PIASC Recruitment Platform’s Company page that lists information about your company, as well as any jobs you are currently listing directly on to your own website.

If you have an ATS already, our site allows you to embed the unique job URL for your open need directly onto the job you post on our site. When a candidate applies it takes them directly to your website application process.

  • Post Jobs to our Job Board
  • Create a Company Profile page that can be embedded onto your own website
  • Track the applicants to apply to your postings
  • Add notes about them and store that date with their job seeker profile

Holistic approach: PIASC knows that this talent shortage will not be solved easily. To solve the problem we will need our members help. By building the ATS onto your site you are helping build a network of jobs that will help gain SEO strength. It will make the industry stand out more on the internet and increase notice of the opportunities. Each of these ATS sites that our members create add another strand to our web of jobs. Instead of one central source for the jobs there will be hundreds.

In development: We are looking to add additional services that assist with the attraction and eventual hiring of new employees. Ideas such as references checking (for a small fee), Apprenticeship programs from their structure to patrolling the candidates while in the program and much more. By having a platform and not simply a job board, we are able to evolve how we service you—our valuable members—and create winning solutions that rise to the challenges the industry faces.

Member employers, please register  here. If you have any questions, please contact Sandra Rodriguez at PIASC, 323.728.9500, ext. 231.

After 48 years of loyal service to PIASC, Ara Izquierdo says good-bye! Ara was hired on May 14, 1969 as insurance administrator. After a few years she was promoted to Office Manager, Assistant to VP of Government Affairs, Public Relations Director, VP of Public Relations, and ultimately to Executive Vice President/COO. During her tenure, Ara accomplished many things; however, the activity closest to her heart was working with young people. She had the privilege of working with teachers and students for 30 years; seeing high school students become teachers while many others went on to work for the printing industry or pursue a different career.

There is always a beginning and an end to everything and it is now time to say good-bye to an industry she served with the love and passion that always characterized Ara.

The best way to find out whether your management efforts are hitting their mark is to ask your employees, and one of the best times to ask is during their annual performance reviews. During the evaluation, take a moment to ask each employee what you could do better to improve your management or communication style, to increase productivity, or to create a more positive work environment. Their answers will help you see where you’re falling short.

Let’s meet at the Printing Museum on July 1, 2017, from 10 am to 4 pm, and celebrate our Country’s Birthday with our Founding Fathers aka The Confounding Brothers. Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson will give a humorous and thought provoking account of the creation of The Declaration of Independence and how our nation came to be. The day’s festivities include special working tours of the Printing Museum collections, including the opportunity to print your own Declaration on Franklin’s Colonial press. Take home lots of patriotic souvenirs printed on our authentic tabletop presses. Your admission includes a lunch of Freedom Dogs, American Apple Pie, and Colonial Punch in Madame Brillon’s French Garden de Liberte, all while being serenaded by our 18th Century musicians, The Colonial Roses. Activities for the whole family are throughout the day in the Museum galleries.

General admission is only $15.00 per person or a family group rate of $50 for up to 4 people. Members of the Museum rate is $12 per person or a family group rate of $40 for up to 4 people. Pass this information on to your employees, family, and friends! For more information and to purchase your tickets click here.
